With eyelash extensions, we attach individual artificial lashes to your own lashes. This makes your lashes look longer, fuller or darker, even without mascara. At Aevum Clinic in Zaandam you can choose a natural or a more voluminous look.
One by one (classic): one extension is placed on each of your own lashes. This gives a natural, groomed effect, as if you are wearing mascara. Volume 2D to 7D: on each of your own lashes we place a small fan of 2 to 7 very light extensions. The higher the number, the fuller the look. Hybrid: a mix of one by one and volume. It gives more depth than classic, but stays softer than volume. Mega volume: even more extra-fine extensions per fan, for the most intense look. This is only possible if your own lashes are strong enough.
During the treatment you lie with your eyes closed. We cover your lower lashes and attach the extensions one by one with lash glue to your own lashes, a small distance from the eyelid. Most people find it relaxing.
Your own lashes constantly fall out and grow back. Each extension falls out together with the natural lash it is attached to. That is why a set gradually becomes thinner. A set usually looks full for 2 to 3 weeks, and after 4 to 6 weeks most of it has fallen out.
Keep your lashes dry at first, usually for around 24 hours, and avoid steam and saunas, so the glue can set properly. Do not use oily cleansers, make-up removers or creams around your eyes. Clean your lashes a few times a week with an oil-free lash cleanser and a soft brush. That way dirt and sebum build up less quickly. Gently brush them into shape every day. Do not use an eyelash curler or waterproof mascara. Preferably sleep on your back or side, not face down in your pillow. Never pull or pick at the extensions. You would pull out your own lashes too.
We advise against eyelash extensions or postpone them if: you have an eye infection, inflamed eyelids or other eye complaints; you recently had eye surgery; then wait for your eye doctor's approval; you are allergic to lash glue or have reacted to extensions before; your own lashes are very thin, short or damaged; a lighter set or a lash lift is sometimes a better choice; you tend to pull at your lashes; you are having chemotherapy or your lashes are falling out for a medical reason.
If the length and weight suit your own lashes and you have the extensions removed the right way, the strain on your own lashes is limited. Even so, there are risks: irritation or red eyes, for example from glue fumes; an allergic reaction to the glue, with itching, swelling or red eyelids. Lash glue contains cyanoacrylate, a substance you can become sensitive to even after several treatments; broken or lost natural lashes with a set that is too heavy, when extensions stick together, or when you pull at them; inflamed eyelid margins if the lashes are not kept clean.
