A brow lift, also called brow lamination, is a treatment for your own brow hairs. At Aevum Clinic in Zaandam we use a special lotion to make the hairs temporarily supple. We then brush them in the desired direction and set them in place. This makes your brows look fuller, more even and well-groomed, without any pigment going into the skin.
Talking it through: at the start of the appointment we discuss which shape suits your face. We also ask about allergies and sensitive skin. Cleansing: we free your brows of oil and make-up. Lifting lotion: the first lotion makes the hairs supple, so we can brush them into shape. Setting: a second lotion fixes the new direction. Care: finally we apply a nourishing product and brush everything into shape.
Do not pluck, wax or tint your brows in the week before the treatment, unless we agree otherwise. In the days before, do not use peels, retinol or other active skincare around your brows. Preferably come without make-up on and around your brows. Have you reacted to hair dye, hair perming products or other lotions before? Let us know in advance via WhatsApp or by phone; then we discuss together whether the treatment is advisable for you.
Your brows are styled right after the treatment. The effect usually stays visible for about 4 to 8 weeks. After that, new hairs grow in and the treated hairs slowly fall back into their natural direction.
The first hours after the treatment matter most, because that is when the new shape sets. Below you can read the aftercare that is usually advised. How long you need to avoid something differs from person to person; we agree together at your appointment on what applies to you exactly.
At the start of your appointment we check together whether the treatment suits you. Do you have questions beforehand? Feel free to ask them via WhatsApp or by phone. We advise against a brow lift or postpone it if: the skin around your brows is irritated, inflamed or damaged, for example by eczema, psoriasis, acne or a small wound; you are allergic to the lotion or have reacted to hair dye or perming products before; you recently had a peel, laser treatment or permanent make-up near your brows and the skin has not yet healed; you use isotretinoin (an acne medicine).
Brow lamination uses chemical lotions, similar to a perm for the hair on your head. With careful application and enough time between treatments, the chance of damage to the hairs is smaller. Even so, there are risks: temporary redness, itching or a burning feeling on the skin; an allergic reaction or contact eczema, even if you had no problems before; dry, brittle or breaking hairs if the treatment is done too often or for too long; a result that turns out differently than expected, for example too straight or too curly.
